Active Learning Strategies for the ClassroomMon, 9/12/2016 | 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM | Campbell Hall 100
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Employ strategies for active learning pedagogy
- Identify available university resources for teaching and technology training and support
- Understand the purpose and scope of the Innovative Spaces Program
- Apply to teach in an Active Learning Classroom
Environments designed for active learning have consistently been shown to increase student engagement, as they force students to move from passive recorders of information to active participants in their own education. This session will be held in an Active Learning Classroom and use active learning methodologies to help participants identify ways that they can move their classes away from standard lectures toward a more active, student-centered experience.
Active Learning Strategies for the Classroom is co-led by the University Center for the Advancement of Teaching (UCAT) as part of the Innovative Spaces Program, a comprehensive, campus-wide initiative to foster transformational teaching and learning in OSU’s innovative classrooms. This collaboration between ODEE, UCAT, and the Office of the University Registrar was established to encourage greater focus on active learning pedagogy and more deliberate utilization of physical spaces.
Instructors accepted to teach in Innovative Spaces are granted priority scheduling and receive training, support, and professional development opportunities. This workshop is designed for instructors accepted into the program, but open to everyone.
