Kickstart Week (Day 1): Course Design, Quality, and Learning ObjectivesTue, 1/2/2018 | 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Kickstart Week is a set of related workshops that will prepare you to design for and teach in online and hybrid settings. Each day focuses on a different set of skills and pedagogies.
This day's workshop will emphasize the following:
- Course Design Process: This workshop will guide you through a backward design process that helps articulate course goals and objectives and identify appropriate learning methods for achieving them. We will focus on differences between traditional course design and what is required for online course delivery.
- Online Quality Assurance: This workshop will review some of the elements of course design and delivery that become especially salient in the transition to online, describe some of the major initiatives to predict a course's effectiveness through standard review, and demonstrate the process of reviewing an online course.
Major Topics: Course Design, Quality, and Learning Objectives
Day One of Kickstart Week will focus on designing your course to take best advantage of online affordances while avoiding pitfalls. The process begins by articulating clear, measurable learning goals and objectives, which workshop leaders will help you do through interactive workshopping. ODEE's Course Quality Coordinator will describe the leading national initiatives for assessing online course quality and demonstrate how you can leverage their rubrics to gauge the effectiveness of your own and peers' courses.
Following each segment, you will have opportunity to practice what you learned with guidance from experts. By the end of the day, you will have had the opportunity to draft and receive feedback on core elements of online course design.
Attendees are encouraged to register for and attend all four days: Day One - Day Two - Day Three - Day Four. They have been designed to provide an integrative introduction to a complete process of online course design.
